Wonderful Encouragement!

"The way one thinks has a powerful effect upon one's ability to perform effectively," writes Dr. Peale on page 23 of this wonderful book. Like most of his writings, this book is designed to help readers think thoughts that directly influence them in a positive way.
He has a wonderful section on the power of writing and reading in the early portion of this book.
Later he talks about God's guidance. He writes, "God does for a fact guide prayerful and believing human beings" (p. 120).
He has some insight on perception, observing, "But I have always noted that to every disadvantage there is a corresponding advantage" (p. 142).
I give this book my highest rating. It is packed with sound advice.

Tiny Tiny Book

I ordered this book as a request from a friend. I thought this was a full size book. When I received my order I thought this book was a joke. The book is 2 inches by 2 inches. I was digging in the box looking for the real thing. How embarrassing! Waste of $6.

One Year to an Organized Life
By Getting there week by week!
I happened upon this book in a store just before the new year. I browsed it and was already inspired. Well, after starting it for the new year I thought of so many friends I would want to share it with. I actually did pick two of my friends to purchase the book for, via Amazon, as a New Year's celebration gift (just to have a reason). Well, like I told those two friends; it's easy reading, great tips and advice and no rush to run through it. It's set up weekly and for a whole year so the pressure is limited. This book is laid out January through December and it is best to start in the actual month that you are in for tracking purposes, and because it addresses holidays and seasons. Yet, the great thing is that you don't have to start like I did in January, you can even skip around if you have too. Start in March and work your year around that way if you want! If you are like me and feel overwhelmed with chores and hopes to organize you will love this set up. It asks good questions to help get to the core of your problems which is organizational therapy :) and teaches accentials to being organized. Some may already know these things, but I for one already in the first month have made a big change thanks to my new information. My kitchen looks great and works more efficiently! One of my friends just sent me an email thanking me again for the book and saying that she has felt some confirmation with it, things she has tried or thought to try. She is inspired too! To share that feels great!

Handy & useful, but as it crams 8 different languages or dialects into a single 250-page volume, the dictionary isn't as complete as it would be if all 250 pages had been devoted to a single language/dialect. For examples, translations for useful words such as (to name a few examples) "birthday," "death," the months of the year, etc. are conspicuous by their absence.

Also, according to this book, "goodbye" in Modern Standard Arabic is "ilaa alikaa" while Gulf Arabic uses "ma'salaama;" in fact, every MSA speaker I've ever met (at least in Iraq) also uses "ma'salaama" to say "goodbye" (or "ashufaq badeeyen for "see you later," another useful phrase missing from this book).

Furthermore, the book says "bi-khay-rin shurkan wa'anta" as the "Fine, thanks" response to "khayf halak ("how are you?") when in fact every Arabic speaker I've met (MSA, Gulf, Egyptian, Levantine, and Moroccan alike) simply uses "ilham dulilah."

So, this book is still a decent start for learning Arabic, and it certainly fits neatly into a trouser pocket, thus making it convenient for travel and transportation, but there's plenty room for improvement in future editions.

Nothing wrong with the valuable content, it's just that the type face is so tiny it's not convenient to read (unless you have unaided excellent vision or a good magnifying glass).

About the Author
Brian Hahn graduated from the University of Cape Town before obtaining a PhD from Cambridge in high energy physics. He lectured in Applied Mathematics at the University of the Witwatersrand for a number of years before moving to Cape Town. He is an associate professor (and Head of Department) in Mathematics & Applied Mathematics at the University of Cape Town, where he has specialised in teaching programming languages to beginners for more than 20 years. He has written a number of popular computing books, on Fortran 77 and 90, GW-BASIC, True BASIC, Turbo Pascal, C++, Matlab and, most recently, Java. When not writing a new book, he carries out research in rangeland modelling. Spare time activies include birding, jogging, and planting indigenous trees on the small holding he shares with his wife and numerous german shepherd dogs. I am about 100 pages in, but I like it so far.
The only hard part was figuring out how to start on my computer.

A fantastic book for renewing oneself to Fortran 90

It has been many years since I did Fortran programming, but once I decided to get involved for professional reasons, this was an excellent choice.
The author slowly and extremely methodically exposes the reader to the Fortran 90 language with what I will coin "computational motivation." Simply stated, just when the chapter gets you thinking about "how to...", BANG, Brian Hahn begins to address that very issue with source code and explanations! I cannot say enough about this book for the beginner or intermediate level Fortran programmer. Please, do yourself an enormous favor if you are interested in using this extremely powerful (and fairly simple!) numerical language for engineering, science, applied mathematics and even financials...take a look at this text on the subject!!

Vision to Legacy: The Great Clips Story was co-authored by Shelby Yastrow and Steve LeBeau. Yastrow, the retired general counsel, executive vice president and secretary of McDonald's Corporation, has been on the Great Clips Board of Directors since 1995 and resides in Scottsdale, Arizona. LeBeau is a writer, editor and former journalist who lives in St. Paul, Minnesota.

This was a gift

My husband loves to read corporate biographies, so this was one of many books I gave him for Christmas. He just couldn't finish reading it because it was poorly written. I think more and more companies are paying to have their biographies printed because they think it's interesting. However, not all company growths are interesting enough and should be left to the radio & TV talk show circuit.

First,a confession, I am a Great Clips Franchisee and have heard a lot of these stories already. Having them interwoven and in a timeline brings them to reality. I can personally attest to the warmth, caring and absolute honesty this company conducts themself in. I am better off having them in my life. #blessed

SEXY Great Clips

I have not read the book. Not sure I will buy it. I am a great Clips customer. I am 85 and dependent on rides so it has been a God-Sent to go in and have my hair cut without an appointment and very often without hardly any waiting. Last time I had to wait about ten minutes so I watched a father with a darling two year old who "stood" with his dad as he paid his bill. What I noticed was that the little one was smaller than the ad of a young man with a "SEXY HAIRCUT" which reminded me of several rapes on college campuses that were reported on the morning news. I looked up at the dad to see if he had a "SEXY HAIRCUT". They left and I noticed the shelves of SEXY hair products. I have been heart sick for the last week wondering how much evil corporations do by using sex to promote sales. I am even wondering if I can go back. Supporting SEXY this way would be contributing to the devaluing of sex in our culture which I am sure contributes to the 32,000 suicides in this country last year. 700 in Minnesota. And homicides?
