This book goes page-by-page through the American Book of Common Prayer (BCP), showing the reasons and origin of the words, prayers and practices used in the 1928 BCP by the traditional Episcopalians and Anglicans. It tells the origins fthe Apostle's Creed, the 4th Century Te Deum Laudimus in Morning Prayer, and why the Gospel passage was chosen for the different Sundays in the church calendar. A great "Why do-?" book!
For anyone who has ever wondered why the Book of Comon Prayer is the way it is, this s a must-have book.

Complete, insightful and inspiring

Mr. Hadden is right on in his review. As a 76 year old Anglican and lifetime user of the 1928 BCP, the Commentary has been invaluable aid to understanding and more fully appreciating the meaning of everything along with historical context. I'm only sorry I did not own a copy when I was confirmed at 15.

Although scholarly in approach, it is easy to read and understand. On the left side, a page from the Prayer Book is reproduced and on the facing page each prayer, psalm, exhortation, rubric, etc. on that page is examined and explained in ordinary English. Nothing is omitted except the Psalter. Even the title page, lectionary and tables are covered.

It is tragic that the book is out of print and likely to remain so. It belongs in the hands of every practicing user of the 1928 BCP and certainly ought to be required reading in every Anglican or traditional Episcopalian confirmation class.

As a science teacher I highly recommend this book for AP chemistry

I'm a high school science teacher for 16 years. Over the years, I have used and evaluated many different test prep products (including the big name companies). I am always looking for the best resources for my students. This book is the best that I have previewed because it has great questions that are challenging but easy to understand if you are familiar with the concepts. Good selections of wrong answers (reasonable but incorrect) which really requires an understanding of AP chemistry. All topics for AP chemistry are covered. The explanations are complete and detailed so much learning occurs from reading the explanations. Several students that I suggested this book to have used it and several that did great on the ap exam. If you are a parent or a student, this is the book I recommend to study from to ace the AP chem exam. I suggest that this book can be used during the school year to learn and review concepts covered in an AP course.

This book is different than an older version my friend used last year because now there are explanations for the questions. Great book to prepare for the AP chemistry exam. Questions and explanations are excellent and targeted for the actual exam. Use this book to prep for the AP chemistry exam. Also great during the year to practice for class exams.

excellent hard yaoi

I'm a bit surprised I enjoyed this book as much as I did. I didn't know anything about the book, or mangaka when I preordered it; so, I didn't know it is set in a school. I don't usually like school-based yaoi because it limits the characters so much: high schooolers (errr, college) with limited experience, surrounded by the same. However, this setting actually is believable as medical school/college, especially since the seme, Asakura, is the doctor in charge of the infirmary, and not the usual teacher or upperclassman. The story begins when Higurashi walks in on Asakura receiving some intimate attention from another student. Before he can rush out to gossip about it, Asakura reveals some embarrassing information he has on Higurashi - Mexican standoff! Asakura proceeds to pursue his reluctant uke, and the sparks fly from there.

The couple is very likeable, and the mangaka throws an obstacle in their way when Higurashi's friend asks him to pose as a boyfriend to avoid the unwanted attentions of an upperclassman. Also, I loved the character of Asakura's mother. She added a lot of humor, especially her interest in her son's love life because she reads gay romance! This is hard yaoi - the sex is explicit, and there is a scene of near-rape that could bother readers sensitive to that. Overall, an excellent title and I hope to read more from this mangaka.

Good Stuff

I'm surprised I enjoyed this as much as I did! The cover seemed to indicate noncon situations to me, but thankfully that did not hold true. When I read the manga, it was way better than I thought. The story flowed well, and the couple really was cute together. The artwork is awesome overall and its Good Stuff.

Cute and pretty standard for a yaoi manga. I also enjoyed the extra story Lover from a Secret Land. It is a fairly cookie cutter teacher/student yaoi but it's a classic for a reason & I enjoyed it a lot.

Marion, a former teacher, has done much of the backroom development and fine-tuning of the various techniques involved, and her thoughts on the subject are equally clear and articulate. They both prefer to talk straight to the reader just as if you were in the therapy suite with them. It's a bit like tough love. Tough love that they've put to the test first hand . . . . when they started developing the therapy Martin was a hefty 264 lb and Marion a seemingly effortlessly slim 124lb. They worked sometimes 24/7 much of the time for two years testing, tweaking and developing their therapy . . . . Martin now weighs in 57lb lighter and Marion's understanding of her relationship with food has played a key part in how they approach 'The Hunger Question' She, naturally, has remained within a few pounds, the same weight throughout. Best "diet" book I've ever read...

Well, I was skeptical. I really, really like this book, though. I wish they would come out with a hypnosis companion CD to go with it. The book is a combination of self-hypnosis, visualization, CBT techniques, and straight talk about how you've gotten into this weight mess to begin with and what it will take to pull yourself out. I've done the calorie restriction diets (WW, etc), the "good food" diets (McDougall, Fuhrman, etc.), the "eat when you're hungry plans (Roth, May, etc.), and although I had success with all for a limited time, none of them every clicked 100% with me like this book did. Maybe I just read it at the right time, but it is working. I've lost 6 pounds in 22 days, which is just under 2 pounds per week and makes me happy. The really cool part is that I'm just eating without points or calories or charts or lists or diagrams or anything else that I just couldn't keep up in the long run. This book will not do it for you, but it will give you advice and motivation that will help you do it yourself.

Very Informative!!

I read other reviews prior to purchasing and noted that it is written in Queen's English, however, most anyone can understand it. The most important thing is that this book stresses that the Gastric Mind Band is not a quick fix and that there are several other sessions, even other therapies used in the whole process, that it is in essence a process and not a magical session. Everything is explained and although, I'm not sure a novice would be able to cure themselves, it is very informative for the person that has a lot of weight to drop and provides some guided introspection. Being a professional that has dealt with clients that have had these type of issues the book is very thorough and a complete guide to be able to help your clientele. I personally, have a background in fitness training and nutritional counseling AND I live in the most obese part of the country. I am very excited to be able to offer this to my clients.

Money no object, I would prefer this to a course given by someone else that most likely also read the book and is teaching their perspective (second only to being able to get a live course from the Shirrans' themselves.) It was very important to me from a professional standpoint, to learn from the actual "inventors" of the method and not a spin-off.

Very interesting concept of treatment of obesity..I am not sure I understand why this is far more popular in Europe than US where obesity is epidemic...
