This is the WORST review book I have ever purchased

This is the WORST review book I have ever purchased. The author of this book simply pulled out key terms and googled the definitions. The definitions are not always medically applicable. It is simply horrible. Do not waste your money. It is beyond horrible. I would rate negative stars if I could.

Don't purchase!

Unfortunately, the book was not as one would expect. After each section there were only 5 questions. Then it would state, "you can take the complete Chapter Practice Test online for 99 cents." Well, upon going to the website, there is no option rather the company trying to sell you stuff. Don't waste your money!

I appreciate the need for "cliff notes," but this is subpar. Overly generalized. Basic definitions only, no management recommendations, no 1st or 2nd medication recommendations, and no EBP guidelines. Acute vs. chronic symptomology not addressed. Not worth the purchase.

One of the only detailed book on the subject.

I have had a very hard time finding technical books on the subject, and so far, this is the only one I could find. There is a lot of content and very interesting examples. The pictures and diagrams are good and efficiently support the text. I wish some chapters were a little more practical, but overall, this is (one of) the most detailed book out there. I recommend this book to anyone interested in spacecraft computers.

Q. Why is your book timely-- what makes it important right now?

A. Our book can be considered a quick guide to getting value from Big Data. Why? Because much of the focus is on Excel and the business intelligence tools that are now baked into it. Additionally, there is content on how to connect to Hadoop data with Excel. There is no better time to embrace the fact that Excel is the preferred tool of choice for analyzing and exploring data. This book provides the keys for getting value from data and sharing discovered insights in SharePoint 2013.

The tools that Microsoft provides are less expensive, integrate more easily in the corporate datacenter, and are accessible to mainstream information workers and developers, using the skills they already have.

Q. What information do you hope that readers of your book will walk away with?

A. 1. A quick tour with exercises for using new BI features in Excel 203 and Visio 2013 and then how to get the most from SQL Server 2012 tabular and SharePoint 2013 when implementing self-service and enterprise BI solutions.

They’re often confused and need information as to why they might want to prefer SQL Server Reporting Services in SharePoint over PerformancePoint Services, or why they might use the Excel 2013 PowerPivot add-in instead of Excel or Excel Services. After all, each product connects to a database and surfaces data from an OLAP cube.

4. A better understanding on how to get to trusted data and the shortened life cycle of BI implementation while using the latest Microsoft BI tools.

Buy the Kindle Edition - I bought 20

Using this as a reference text for a class in BI. The lab set-up in Appendix A was a challenge for the students, but I was able to build the VM environment with a little additional work and give it to them.

Kindle Edition has screenshots in colour - which addresses the concern some reviewers have.

The first two chapters are a bit basic - and benefit from being supplemented by additional resources (Kimball books).

Students really enjoyed how this fit their program and synthesized several concepts in practical application.

Another MS Press title rushed to press

The first problem I had with this book was with the illustrations. Some of the screen captures are OK, but others look like they were printed in color, then scanned in B/W. Just to put what you will see into words, quite a few of the images look as if the image was printed on a laser printer that was low on toner.

The book includes information on some very recently announced features such as native PowerView in Excel 2013. This is a good thing, but it also seems like another clue that the book was probably rushed to press.

Lastly, there are step by step examples that are mostly correct, but there were probably last minute changes in the most recent code updates such as function shifted from just the SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) moniker, to include SSDT - Business Intelligence for VS 2012. A minor point that happens quite a bit with the first books to be released on a technology subject.

I gave this book an OK rating because it could have, and should have, been better but think the fault rests with the publisher and not the authors.

As others have noted, various diagrams and illustrations are not well introduced in the hardcopy version (and I suspect the Kindle equivalents may be worse). However, I don't find this a show-stopper: the book is a good, quick, introduction to designing and developing BI tools using the current SP 2013 release. If possible, find a paper copy and l

Definitely a keeper.

Being young and finding love for the first time can be a scary but wonderful time. Mike is a handsome and popular and Hayden is something of geek. Why would someone like him want someone like her, but opposites attract. They have talked about the future, made plans ,declared their love for one another and in a blink of an eye Hayden is gone. 5 Years later she is back and Mike is still angry. Will the misunderstandings of the past prevent the possibility of a future. This is a well written, fast read with a smooth flowing storyline. The author has presented us with a sweet romance about second chances that is warm and touching. Definitely a keeper.

Nicole Smith is the author of Allie the Allergic Elephant: A Children s Story of Peanut Allergies and Cody the Allergic Cow: A Children s Story of Milk Allergies and Chad the Allergic Chipmunk: A Children s Story of Nut Allergies.
She became interested in writing a children s book on peanut allergies after discovering her son, Morgan, has life threatening peanut allergies.
She is the author of the Web site, Allergicchild.com, supporting families and communities dealing with severe food allergies.
Nicole was raised on several military bases, but has called Colorado Springs home for many years. She graduated from George Washington University in Washington, D. C. and went on to work in the field of finance for several years.
Nicole has served as Treasurer for the non-profit organization, Kids With Food Allergies, Inc. and has helped school districts across the United States manage food allergies and create safe environments for food allergic children.
Nicole is currently serving on the Food Allergy Initiative (FAI) Advocacy Steering Committee to help build a strong nationwide presence for the food allergy community in the public policy arena, and to actively seek to increase federal funding for food allergy research.

Bad lessons for children!

As a mother of 2 little girls with severe peanut and tree nut allergies, I thought this book would be perfect to bring to school to help teach her class about food allergies. I have to say that I am surprised that the author, who has a severely allergic son of her own, was so irresponsible in how she wrote this book. The book repeatedly explains how Allie wants to eat peanuts so badly and be like the other elephants who ALL eat peanuts. It says how her friends all feel so bad for her. This isn't the attitude I want to enforce in my girls or their friends. The worst part of the book is that there are pages dedicated to showing the types of reactions Allie can have with funny illustrations with "Oh no... Allie is having hives from the peanuts! Do you want to see Allie get hives?" Only after 5 similar pages of reactions does it say... "Or would you rather see Allie stay healthy and happy?" It's really ridiculous and irresponsible to give children a reason to wonder what reactions look like and if they'd like to watch a friend go through them! Allie is shown refusing peanuts from a friend but only asking if there's peanuts in other foods. Children must be taught to never take food from friends when the suffer severe food allergies, not just ask another 5 year old if there's peanuts! The book even ends with "Allie just wants to be a normal elephant..." Um, my daughters are normal, they just deal with a food allergy. How can a mom of a severely allergic child think this book sends a great message? Wow. I most certainly won't be reading it to my daughter's class! I DO however recommend "Food Allergies and Me" by Juniper Skinner which I ordered at the same time as this book. It truly has all the right lessons and sends the right messages to allergic children and their friends!

Cute book

This is a cute book, and I think it gets the point across to a small child, but I did have higher hopes for it, so I was a little disappointed. I will keep looking for a book that better explains the allergy to my child, and how he can be proactive in dealing with it. I think this book is maybe better for a very young child who is first learning about his allergy. My child is 2 but I feel like he needs more than this book offers. Still, I think he'll like it.

excellent for toddler

We started reading this to our son when he was 2.5 yrs old. He's now 3 and really enjoys reading it with us. He looks at it like any of his other fun books and its helping us get across the whole peanut allergy concept to him. I especially like that it mentions foods that peanuts "hide" in like M and Ms since that's a food my peanut-allergic son would really like to have and we've had to say no.

An incredible jewel

The book is a written account of an oral transmission of the "Vijnana Bhairava" by the great Kashmir Shaivite teacher and saint Swami Lakshmanjoo. Included in the back of the book is a CD of mp3 files of the transmission that runs about 7 hours. It is an amazing blessing to have this opportunity to actually listen to Swami Lakshmanjoo. The recordings were made some time ago, before the advent of easy digital recording, so the volume varies and there is sometimes ambient noise, but this should be overlooked and the incredible gift of getting to actually listen to Swami Lakshmanjoo's voice and teaching embraced fully. There is such love and warmth and humor and clarity in Swami Lakshmanjoo's voice!

As for the content of the teachings, it is deep. Comparing this work to Jaideva Singh's excellent translation "Vijnanabhariva Divine Consciousness," I find this one more powerful: it feels like it is coming from a true master. Singh's well-footnoted books are always a treasure trove of information about Kashmir Shaivism (and it is interesting to note that Singh often references Swami Lakshmanjoo--I believe Singh was a student) but with Swami Lakshmanjoo's oral transmission, the clarity of a true master who knows the Truth behind the words of the teachings shines brightly. There is the sense of listening to someone who has taught these exercises to many students--who know how they work--leaving the listener-reader with the ability to more fully put them into practice. Transmission is here for those open to it.

For those with no understanding of the specific terms used in Kashmir Shaivism, I would suggest checking out one of Jaideva Singh's wonderful translation works--either "Shiva Sutras" or "Vijnanabhairva"--both of which have excellent introductory chapters detailing the landscape of Kashmir Shaivism.

World needs books like this

This book in particular and this TYPE of book in general satisfy an important need: focus on specific subject matter with concise delivery at negligible cost. Johnson's short treatise is a good, efficient discussion of financial statements with one example of company analysis. Not what you'd call a deep dive, but it's well worth the time and money investment and the reader does not have time to zone out while reading. The primary downside - which almost cost a one-star downgrade - is that the lack of attention to grammar and proof-reading is annoying. Short, cheap, focused Kindle books are great but let's not make the language equivalent to Twitter or text messages.

Good quick read

I am a novice at financial analysis and this little book has been a lot of help. But for someone who wants to dig even deeper into the workings of corporate finance and valuation, I realized that there are many more resources out there to help me get a better and thorough understanding of financial reports. Buy the book if you are merely putting on a foot into the art of analyzing companies. Otherwise, find something else with thorough analysis and resources!
