Charmng, Tragic and funny! I have read True Grit several times and loved BOTH movies as well. I'm now reading it with my 11 year old daughter, who loves it. (and there are so few books we can agree on!) A real "girl power" novel that's doesn't feel contrived or forced. Mattie's just a really strong character and in the end, the title "True Grit" is as much about her as it is about her tough guy guardian, Rooster Cogburn

Wasnt quite as expected

This book isnt nearly as detailed as one would hope it would be. Many of the joints in this book are extremely basic; to the point of boredom! Ive been a smoker for 15 years - easily consider myself a connoisseur. But the first 1/3 of this book almost made me give up on the rest. Much of it seems to be there just to help fill the space. Although for the hardcore smokers out there, there are a nice group of some very whacky types of joints. most of them probably arent very realistic for day to day smokers. maybe those once/twice a year special occasions or something along those lines. The directions arent nearly as helpful as they should be. especially if the author hoped to instruct non-rollers how to roll in the first place.

If youve never rolled a joint - or never had any success at it. this book probably wont help you much. Overall though - its not a bad gift to your fellow stoners. (or yourself)And for us experienced smokers, there are a few nice tidbits in here.

I just got my Spliffigami book yesterday, it definately has some creative & interesting new ways to roll a joint! I am really interested in trying out the "Heart-shaped high~A love bud for sharing".
I like the book, but it has some joints that are just too far out to try, in my opinion. It also gives alot of basic rudimentary potsmoker information, like how to assess good bud and how to roll normal joints, as well as joint ettiquette. As they intsruct- alot of the joints in the book almost HAVE to be used with "mixers". (Common in the UK, a mixer is anything added to the joint other than cannabis, such as tobacco or crushed cannabis leaves mixed into the pot.) Most of the joints also require the use of a 'filter' that you make by rolling up a small peice of cardboard (like that off a rolling paper pack)to put into the roach. These are just some things that I think are helpful to know before purchasing. Overall a cool book to own!

First time I got the book the cover was apart from all the pages. So I sent it back thinking it was just a bad book from the batch. Wrong. Sent it back and got a replacement that was apart as well! Do NOT buy this book unless you only need it for a short period of time. Waste of my money and most of the ideas for rolling are basic and not for anyone who has been smoking for a long period of time.

Makes 8-10 fudge pops

Ingredients

• 8 ounces (227 g) high-quality
• bittersweet chocolate (62% to 70% cacao), coarsely chopped
• 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
• 11/4 cups (10.4 oz / 290 g) heavy cream
• 1 cup (8.6 oz / 242 g) whole milk
• 1/4 cup (1.8 oz / 50 g) sugar
• 4 teaspoons natural (not Dutch-processed) unsweetened cocoa powder
• 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Directions

Have ready 10 ice-pop molds. If your molds are flexible like the ones we use at the museum, set them on a rimmed baking sheet.

Place the chocolate in a large heatproof bowl, add the vanilla extract, and set aside. In a medium, heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the cream, milk, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Cook over medium-low heat, whisking often to break up the lumps of cocoa powder, until bubbles start to form around the edges and the temperature of the mixture registers 180°F to 190°F on a digital thermometer.

Immediately pour the cream mixture over the chocolate and stir with a whisk or blend with an immersion blender until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is a smooth liquid (a thoroughly emulsified mixture will yield the most creamy fudge pop). Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve set over a liquid measuring cup.

Pour the chocolate mixture into the ice-pop molds and freeze until solid, at least 4 hours or up to 2 weeks; follow the manufacturer’s instructions for inserting the sticks. If you don’t have ice-pop molds, pour the chocolate mixture into ice cube trays; freeze until partially frozen, about 30 minutes, and then insert a toothpick or short wooden skewer into each ice pop. Continue freezing until solid.

Unmold the fudge pops, dipping the molds into warm water to loosen, if needed, and serve.

Excellent Coffee Table Book

My friend pre-ordered this and I gave it a long look over. The pictures and recipes are amazing and include pictures of the pieces that inspired them. The book is amazing except for the fact that the recipes seem completely impractical (impossible?) I would recommend the book, but most likely not for a recipe book. I'll probably pick up my own copy and attempt them anyway!!

I asked for this book for my birthday after seeing a video featuring some of the desserts. And I am not disappointed.

I just finished making the Vanilla Buttercream recipe and it is amazing! It did take awhile but it was worth it. Can't wait to make the rest of the cake.

While many of the recipes are too time-consuming for most home cooks, this book is a pleasure to look at and read. Nice to know the author/baker's inspiration for the desserts and a few will be tried.

Great "textbook" for beginners on silks

You can get this book as a paid download from aerial suppliers. It is the pdf version that I'm reviewing. I really wish the e-books were availabe here on Amazon.

I thought this manual was great for me. I am brand new to silks and aerial. The photos really helped me understand the basic moves. I had a teacher who took a "monkey see-monkey do" approach and i couldnt remember anything from class. This manual actually helped me figure out the mechanics and avoid bad technique. (and then i got better teachers who could break things down similar to this manual!)

I'm still using the book to refresh myself in between classes. Aerial requires both body and brain, so this book is good for the brain training. There are many complicated wraps in this book that you may never use. But the author tries to get the student tied up in the silks to train for spatial awareness and that's a good thing to learn so i dont mind it. (the author is also a mathmatician, she thinks knots are fun)

I would recommend this book to anyone learning silks to help "set" the moves in your mind between classes.

Very readable, but likely not enough to learn alone.

This book delivers on what it advertises. It starts with tips for warming up and preventing injuries, and then introduces basic moves and positions. It does not comment on rigging, except that you should get help from a professional.

My school aerial club was founded by a student with many years in flying trapeze and ground acrobatics. We had the rigging and safety knowledge, but no knowledge of silks, so this book was perfect for us. There was also one member who was a professional on silks who came every once in a while, and it was great to have a trained eye watch you.

Has - warm up, well explained moves with lots of helpful pictures
Missing - rigging advice, someone to point out what you don't realize you're doing wrong (though it mentions some common mistakes).

It's probably best to take a class first, and then get this and her intermediate books to supplement your learning. If you have a good background in trapeze or lyra, this book is probably sufficient to start learning silks.

Not a Serious Effort. The Apps or the eBook.

Not a serious effort. The apps or the book.

That's not to say there is nothing of value in the ebook and it isn't expensive so there is nothing lost, really.

But one cannot seriously expect the four apps the author discusses having been serious efforts. They really have no meaningful functionality and there are thousands upon thousands of apps just like them in the app store. Not apps that do what they do, but apps that have no meaningful functionality. Sorry, just calling it as I see it.

If you want to develop an app for profit it is like any other software project: You need to start with an idea. In the author's case, it appears the real idea was to get in the app development business then come up with some ideas for apps. Finding the right idea can be challenging for any software project, and that was at least one reason for the author's failure. Marketing is probably the other big reason, but it is hard to market software that doesn't really do anything.

I would also have to question the approach, i.e., dream up an idea then outsource the project. I think it would be really difficult to develop a meaningful design without some command of the development process, and you need to at least have the fundamentals of the design before outsourcing. If you outsource the design, then you really don't have anything in the project.

App development isn't for the author. But that doesn't mean it isn't for anyone.

Refreshingly honest and tremendously informative.

I appreciate Karol's honesty with sharing all of this amazing information. In a world where most people tend to hide their business related hiccups, Karol does the complete opposite. He opens the door and isn't afraid to show you everything (the good AND the bad). He does this in hopes that he could help you from tripping up and/or crashing and burning. This book is lots of fun and is a quick read. It's set up in an easy-to-follow step-by-step manner that keeps you wanting more. If you're involved, in any way, with the app making biz, the book is a must read. 5 stars!

About the Author
Dave Stevens was a Navy Commander and nuclear-weapons-trained fighter pilot. He served as the Strike Operations Officer for the Persian Gulf during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. With a Top Secret clearance, he led classified defense programs, test-piloted new F-18 fighters and earned an aviation patent. He has been to over 30 countries, 10 miles above the earth, 600 feet below the Atlantic and survived hundreds of his own carrier landings. Dave holds engineering degrees from Cornell and the University of Michigan with graduate work in astrophysics and human factors. He uses an extensive network of subject matter experts — from astronauts and astrophysicists to intelligence operatives and Special Forces — to entertain and educate.

Brilliant Sequel. Does Not Disappoint! This Series Just Gets Better! Bring on Book 3. A Must Read!

Another very impressive work by Stevens! This follows on very nicely from Impact, Book 1. I was very fortunate to have been given an unedited version from the author. It was so good to be able to read this next installment straight after the previous. Again, this is a cannot-put-down novel, action packed, mystery and suspense. Josh is in deep in the action and intrigue, as usual, and in his element. It is really good to have characters from Book 1, Tim Smith, Brian Davidson, Greg Langlois and of course, Elizabeth return as well.

In my review of Impact, I stated I was looking forward to seeing the relationship develop further between Josh and Elizabeth and in this novel, their relationship has resulted in marriage and they seem very happy indeed. Very happy with this.

Stevens continues the plot regarding the comet that was left unfinished in Impact and this, while giving closure to the comet storyline, helps set the plot for this novel. Smooth transition from the former storyline to this installment. Stevens is a master at storylines flowing smoothly.

Readers of this review beware! From this point on, I do discuss some things that may spoil it for those who have not read this novel yet, but I include them not to spoil the plot for these readers, but to show how masterfully Stevens has dealt with the issues he includes in this novel. So scroll down if you want to continue reading and don't mind what I include for the rest of the review.

It is an effect of the comet that has a major influence on the plot line in this novel. It seems that each of the three (or 4, yes there may be a fourth) novels will contain a theme that Stevens sees as a major threat to life on this planet either including all life on earth or specific threats to the human race. It is the latter that is portrayed in this novel. Not only does Stevens portray how technology, in this case, computer technology, can get out of hand, but highlights how the human race would/could deal with artificial intelligence (AI). It raises the questions on how does the human race control AI and do we consider AI as a living entity? Do we give it the same rights as the human race? Do we consider the human race as the authority that AI answer to and is accountable to? Will the human race remain fearful of AI? How do we learn to co-exist in a mutual and beneficial relationship? Does AI have a soul? If there is a God who is Creator, where does AI fit in with this?

These questions were treated very well and balanced by Stevens, and in doing so, gives us some very serious technical, ethical and practical issues to consider in dealing with this potential new reality. He is very masterful in including the technical aspects of how AI could develop and also very skillfully portrays the pitfalls of our software in relation to AI. When a software virus gets out of control and shuts down everything controlled by software worldwide, Stevens illustrates just how reliant on software we are. He does so through the character of President Yager who states,

"Without our software, we lose communication and control, without those, we lose transportation, and without that, the flow of food stops followed by power and water. This nightmare may have been beneficial in showing us how vulnerable we are. With our total dependence on complex technology, we're a few short steps from anarchy.'

Through another character, Shearer, Stevens continues this theme,

"Our critical infrastructure, power, water and communication must be controlled by hardware, not software. We must use EMP hardened electronic controllers and dedicated communication links that can't be affected by software, Critical services, such as food and fuel stores, must have software-free backup systems, so we can manually activate fuel pumps and accept paper currency. It's not just artificial intelligence we have to worry about: a massive solar storm could also bring us to our knees."

Here, Stevens seems to be giving a solution and challenge to this potential threat to how we live and whether we return to the pre-electronic age. As with the previous novel, and I presume with the others to follow, Stevens writes of these threats with passion and concern for the earth and all life, not just for the human race. He challenges us that if we identify of these threats, then with unity, co-operation, knowledge of science and technology, we can work towards a solution to either preventing them or minimising their effects.

Stevens is one author who successfully blends suspense, science and technology, a touch of the supernatural, romance, mystery and intrigue into one very entertaining, educational, thought provoking novel.

After reading this instalment, I am even more eager to read Book 3, and to see the movie versions of this series.

This instalment is a must-read!

Josh Fuze returns

When Impact (aka Resurrect) first came out in 2012, David E. Stevens had built a wonderful thought provoking adventure out of an apocalyptic world scenario. It had action, romance, drama and adventure. The characters were very dynamic and relatable – thus drawing you into the story.

With the second chapter of the Fuzed series, I will admit that the basic premise behind Imagine had me a bit skeptical about whether it could really measure up to the standard set by the first. It was an interesting concept about collective power of cell phone technology becoming smarter and more powerful than even those that created it, but could this really make for a good novel?

The answer was yes. Imagine didn’t just measure up to the standard set by the first novel. It surpassed it.

This book starts off right where the first one left off. We see the return of familiar characters and the arrival of new ones. After narrowly escaping certain doom from the comet hurtling toward the Earth, Josh Fuze receives a message on his phone with one word, “imagine.” Then, things turn from the bizarre to the dangerous. It appears that skilled hackers have cracked into global cell phone networks causing increasingly wide spread damage. Stock markets, GPS navigation systems, and even secret CIA files are all affected. The world appears to be on the verge of a catastrophic economic meltdown – except one country that is not affected. It appears that China has not adopted the use of the technology that is presumed behind the attacks. Could this be a coincidence or a dangerous plan to bring the rest of the world down on its knees?

Imagine is a fast-paced ride with characters that are both dynamic and realistic, and there are plenty of surprises that keep you flipping through the pages. The story is not only dramatic and interesting, but it may be more realistically plausible than anyone has ever realized. With Imagine, Dave Stevens not only shows that he’s got intellect and talent, but that he also has the skills and abilities of an accomplished author that will stand the test of time. Two stories down. Looking forward to many more.

Every time I have a not so good experience with a new author it is always followed up by a great experience with another new author. This was the case with my introduction to Sydney Lain. I was drawn in, my interests were not only kept but peaked by this new author's style and characterization. When I fall in like with the MCs right away it is such an enjoyable experience that I slow down while reading it, to keep the story going as long as possible. It's an added bonus knowing it is the beginning of a series. I want Roman's brother to find his mate. He seems like a really nice guy, though sometimes quick to jump to erroneous conclusions.

This first book of the Supernatural Society Mates series starts off with a mystery. What exactly happened at the vampire night club? Where do Roman and his brother live? What kind of powers do demons possess? How do demons find their mates? How do other paranormals react to demons? Why is Roman so uptight? What does he do to relax? Why is he on the paranormals' council? My favorite though is Micah. Homeless, helpless, and mute. Tough, sarcastic, and independent. Scared, lonely, and out of options. Stubborn, smart, and psychosomatic.

Paranormals abound: Elves, demons, shifters, and vampires. Unsavory characters also do: Creepy elves, sleazy drug dealers, human menaces, wolf shifters for hire. What happened at the vampire night club that could make Micah loss the ability to talk? Why are wolf shifters out hunting for him? Will his obstinance get him killed? Why won't he let his mate in? Why is he so afraid to trust Roman when all he's been shown is kindness and generosity? Who is Prince Zed? Why does Micah feel he can trust the bartender Jacob? When is running away not a good plan of action?
There's a lot going on in this first book that is left unexplained. Since I am starting this series well into it's creation I can begin the second book right away. Which I plan to do shortly...

Finally, something I haven't read before!! I love the world the author is creating here. Original take on "supes" (as I call them), and in my favorite genre, too!! I'd say I couldn't as for more in a book, but the first book has left me begging for the next one!

About the Author
Iris Gattegno Tarbuk has the gift of seeing and communicating with energies and beings in the otherworld an "reading" persons and their souls. She will say she is a soul reader, she can see souls and reads people like books. In Israel, where she was born, she graduated on the Israeli College for Alternative Medicine and started working especially in the field of counseling people with emotional and psychological problem, using also the Bach flower therapy. During the past thirty years of working on herself, she has further developed her natural talent and today she can recommend people which course to take in order to put in motion their own energy with which they will overcome difficulties and remove blockages. She has been living in Zagreb since 1995 and has led several workshops titled "Developing intuition" where she taught how to develop attention for the invisible world around us. She has recently developed specific channeled soul mates workshops attended by those who seek true love, but don't succeed in finding their soul mate or their spiritual partner. She achieved significant results in that field. Attendees of these workshops of guided meditation become aware why they have failed in finding love and learn how to change that. This workshop has gradually become international, with participants from other countries in the region. Iris was brought by love from Israel to Croatia. She now lives in Zagreb with her husband Branimir, daughter Coral and son Darel, who, she says, taught her what true love is because he sees other people with his heart, sees the soul and not the physical appearance in them. As an eleven-year-old girl, Iris wrote her wish list. She put helping people to the first place on this list, and she has already realized it. someone is really looking for that right person to spend their life with this is a great book to read.  Iris is a well known medium and guide.  She wrote this book to really open up eyes, minds, and hearts. This is a real love guide. There is talk of the other side in the book. I really like how this book is not only a how to find love and you soul mate but also how to build and keep a relationship and life with your soul mate.  There is much talk of the happy, and unhappy things of love along with the long and short connections between lovers. She even talks of sex, which is one of the most powerful energies  in the universe. Did you know that? I didn't. Never thought bout it. You can learn so much from this book. If you take it to heart. I  even think this could be chocolate and strawberries for the soul. You will want more.

I would like to read more of iris and her thoughts and about medium works. I recommend this book to anyone who is trying to find love or make a relationship better. Just take your time reading the book. Take it all in. enjoy the book.

If so, then this is a MUST READ for you!! Iris Gatteegno Tarbuk has written this fantastic guide to finding that one person, and not only finding them but, building a lifetime relationship with them. Iris is a well-known spiritual medium and guide. She explains to the reader, the love which only a medium can see both in the known and the other world, in the eternal journey of searching for and finding soul mates. She speaks of happy and unhappy, long and short destinies and contacts of lovers and their carnal union with energies exchange through sex, which is the most powerful magic existing in the universe. True love.

Everyone should be looking for the kind of love described in this book. I personally loved how this book defined what love is and explained how to find it; the book was overall very engaging and well-written. As someone who is (somewhat) contently single, it was a great reminder that somewhere out there is the right person for me.

I liked how Tarbuk talked about keeping true love, and he did a good job of making complex things easy to understand. Overall, I found this book inspiring and I think it's relatable to anyone regardless of what relationship stage they are in. It's well worth the read.
